2009 WPSL FINAL FOUR SET

Ajax America returns to defend 2008 National Championship; Long Island looks to win 2nd WPSL title as the hosts

SACRAMENTO, CA (07/27/09) - After an exciting week of conference and regional playoff action, the field for the 2009 Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) National Championship has been finalized. This weekend will see 2008 WPSL champion Ajax America (14-1-1) return to defend their crown after winning their fourth consecutive Pacific Conference title, while the undefeated East Conference champion Long Island Fury (12-0-1) have made it back to the "Final Four" for the first time since their 2006 WPSL National Championship victory in Salt Lake City, UT.

The Fury will also have the honor of hosting this event, and will face-off against undefeated Big Sky Conference champion Dallas Premier (10-0-1) in the second WPSL Semifinal match this Saturday, August 1st at 7:30 p.m. at Adelphi University's Competition Field. Long Island defeated the Millburn Magic by a 3-0 score this past Saturday in the East Final while Dallas traveled to Tucson, AZ on July 21st to face the 2008 WPSL National Finalist Arizona Rush in the Big Sky Final, winning in overtime by a 3-2 score.

In a compelling first WPSL Semifinal at 5:00 p.m., however, Ajax Head Coach Brian Boswell and his veteran side look for the repeat as they face the Miami Kickers F.C. (8-1-2). Ajax defeated their perennial Pacific rival in the California Storm at Natomas H.S. in Sacramento, CA last night by a 6-5 margin in penalty kicks, as the two sides scored in each overtime period, respectively. The 2009 Sunshine Conference title-holders were victorious over Midwest representative Ohio Premier by a 2-0 score in the Regional Final held this past Saturday in Plantation, FL to gain their berth into the Final Four.

The Consolation match will be held at Noon on Sunday, August 1st while immediately afterwards at 2:30 p.m., the 2009 National Final will pit the Semifinal victors against each other for the WPSL title. Admission is $10/adult and $5/children (each day) and is good for both matches. Tickets will be available at the Competition Field gate and for more information, you can contact the Fury by visiting their official website at http://www.lifurysoccer.com, by e-mail at contact@lifurysoccer.com or by phone at 516-764-4588.
