WPSL TEAM OF THE WEEK III

Claremont's Alyssa Clark (L) & Lancaster's Teresa Rynier (R) are named WPSL Co-Players of the Week

SACRAMENTO, CA (06/09/09) - Good things happen in two's and that song remained the same when it came to the selection of this edition of the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Team of the Week. A variety of teams had multiple selections, led by the strong road-trip performance by the Lancaster Inferno (2-1-0 WPSL East) and the undefeated start to 2009 by SD United (4-0-1 WPSL Pacific-South).

However, when it pertained to the player of the week selections it was the goalkeeper from United's division rival that stole a little glamour away from them with an incredible performance in goal, while the Inferno would do more than beg, borrow or steal with two wins over WPSL East powers. Therefore, Lancaster's forward Teresa Rynier and Claremont's keeper Alyssa Clark have been named the WPSL Co-Players of the Week:

F Vicki DiMartino (LONG ISLAND FURY)
The second-leading scorer at last year's U-17 World Cup made her Fury debut in the 3-2 win over Philadelphia, and her effect was two-fold: bolstering a depleted roster but more importantly, scoring two goals to help keep Long Island undefeated in the WPSL East at 3-0-0.

F Vanessa Miskella (WALNUT CREEK POWER)
Miskella's hat-trick in the 4-2 win over the Monterey Blues and the go-ahead volley against San Francisco in Pacific-North play gives her the nod to the WPSL TOTW.

F Kim Keener (PALM BEACH UNITED)
Keener logs PBU's first hat-trick of the season in a 4-1 Sunshine Conference victory over the Puerto Rico Capitals and added an assist on the final goal to give her a hand in all the scoring.

F/MF Teresa Rynier (LANCASTER INFERNO) - WPSL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The leading scorer for Lancaster (2g, 2a) & All-CAA First Team selection has paced the Inferno offense, causing havoc in the New England victory, notching a goal & assist in the 3-2 win over SoccerPlus CT while being the only player to score vs. Boston this season (3-1 L on May 30th).

MF Megan Monroig (LANCASTER INFERNO)
The Penn State standout patrolled the right flank in Lancaster's two road wins last weekend, registering two assists and a goal vs. the Mutiny.

MF Susie Mischenko (LOS ANGELES RAMPAGE)
With an ability to un-balance defenses as well as execute great runs off the ball, the former CSUN star made one such run that led to a goal vs. West Coast F.C., giving the Rampage an important 2-1 Pacific-South win over the defending division champions.

MF Stephanie Duron (LOS ANGELES RAMPAGE)
Duron had a big impact in the Rampage's 4-1 win over So Cal Rush, entering the 1-1 game in the 46th minute and going on to register two assists and a goal.

D/M Sam Wright (MIAMI KICKERS F.C.)
The Cornell University standout would notch two goals and three assists in a 7-1 Sunshine Conference victory over hard-luck Puerto Rico, who have conceded 14 goals to three scored this season.

D/M April Perry (MIAMI KICKERS F.C.)
The four-time Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel All-Broward County selection for Florida International would notch the insurance goal in a 2-0 Sunshine Conference win over Florida, but it was overall play that got her on the WPSL TOTW alongside her team-mate in Wright.

D Whitney Owusu (SD UNITED)
The University of Wisconsin defender held her own versus the defending WPSL champion Ajax America attack, helping SD United get a vital shutout draw on the road while also helping the defense to blank the SeaLions by a 3-0 score the next day.

D Michelle Kielty (BAY STATE SELECTS)
Bay State's center-back played superbly in a 1-0 win at CDSA, as the Boston University defender kept the Future forwards at bay and helped preserve the road shut-out for the gritty WPSL East side.

GK Alyssa Clark (CLAREMONT STARS) - WPSL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Loyola Marymount University back-stop had 19 saves over two games this weekend - a 0-0 draw at West Coast F.C. and a 1-0 win over the So Cal Rush. Clark has only allowed three goals in the Stars' first five games.

HONORABLE MENTION: GK Jess Rahm (SEATTLE SYNERGY) - the Seattle Pacific University keeper made three acrobatic saves in the last seven minutes (10 saves overall) that secured a 0-0 draw vs. the high-powered Portland Rain in Pacific-North play; GK Annette Rodriguez (WALNUT CREEK POWER) - held back the Monterey Blues with 11 saves in the 4-2 win; F Becca Riddle (SALT LAKE CITY SPARTA) - the BYU star has scored a team-leading three goals and two assists for Big Sky-North Division leaders Sparta this season, including the GWG vs. Boise on June 6th; F Rebekah Splaine (BOSTON AZTEC) - the Aztec player/coach had two goals in the team's second straight 3-0 WPSL East win over Millburn; F Lindsay Browne (SD UNITED) - the Clemson University standout has led the Pacific-South leaders in scoring this season (2g, 2a), including a goal in the 3-0 derby win over San Diego WFC.
