Carmel United Soccer Club of the WPSL Midwest Conference have announced their coaching staff for the 2009 season. Based in Carmel, IN, CUSC is a youth soccer organization fielding teams from U-6 thru U-19 and is home to over 70 State Cup championships and hundreds of collegiate players.
Head Coach Frank Dixon has coached soccer many years at various levels, including recreational, youth, high school, club and adult soccer teams. As coach at Carmel High School for 19 years, his team has won 9 State Championships. Frank has a USSF C coaching license and as a 22-year veteran of Carmel United coaching ranks, Dixon coached a team to the USYSA Regional Championship in 2007, followed with a trip to the National Finals. He has also coached the U-23 and Adult Amateur teams for more than 10 years.
Assistant Coach Ralph Richards played at Indiana University and has been a Carmel United coach for 8 years. Ralph has a USSF B coaching license and his team won the 2008 USYSA Regional Championship, followed with a trip to the National Finals.
Assistant Coach Gene Lindley was a player at UNC-Greensboro and has been a Carmel United coach for 15 years. Gene has a USSF D coaching license and was named the 2006 IYSA Coach of the Year. Gene's U-19 Carmel Cyclones won the 2007 USYSA Regional Championship, followed by the 2007 National Championship.
Technical Director Russell Gee grew up in England and played professional soccer for the Minnesota Thunder and Indianapolis Blast. The New England Mutiny of the WPSL East Conference have bolstered their attack, signing former SoccerPlus CT Reds & University of Hartford standout Meagan Reimer. The former Hawks star was named America East Conference Striker of the Year, America East All-Conference First Team and the America East Championship Most Outstanding Player in 2006. Reimer was also named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Northeast Region First Team and the NEWISA All-New England First Team.
Reimer led Hartford in scoring with eight goals and six assists for 22 points; ranking second in the America East in both points and goals. She netted three game-winning goals, the most on the team and scored two goals - including the game winner - and added an assist in her first game at Hartford in a 3-0 victory over Albany.
Prior to transferring to Hartford, Reimer was a two-year starter at Sacred Heart University and helped lead her team to the Northeast Conference Championship finals in 2004 and the semifinals in 2005. Megan started all 19 games in 2005 and netted two goals. She also scored two goals (both game winners) and added an assist in 19 games in 2004. A four-year letterwinner at Ellington High School, Reimer was an all-state and all-conference selection and named team captain and MVP.
The Thomasville Dragons of the Sunshine Conference of the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) announced their roster for the 2009 season, which includes the 2007 NJCAA national scoring leader in Stephanie Daniels. Returning defenders Amanda Jenkins, Gabrielle Wiggins and Brittany Smith are reinforced by Rachel Wiggins, Stacy Smith and Cassi Couch. Goalkeeper Erica Lippitt assumes keeper duties with Lauren Byrd.
Strikers Stephanie Daniels, Kendall Couch and Laura Hoey will join Leasa Jackson in the attack for the Dragons this year. Veteran midfielders Erin Magaw, Sheila MacLaughin, Alicia Meng, Kelly Stephens, Casey Ponder and Sara Davis add Holly Bennett, Kim Firth, Taylor Benton and Sarah Rudder to the rotations.
"The Dragons have a solid core of returning and new players for this year, and our coaching staff is very impressed with the quality we have seen in training camp," said General Manager Jim Wiggins. "Our first-year players have integrated into the team nicely, and the leadership from our experienced players has taken us up a level... Our attack has stepped up a notch this year. Stephanie is the 2007 NJCAA national scoring leader, Kendall is a four year ODP player and Laura is a University College Dublin player. This trio definitely adds a new dimension for us. All three of these girls can find the net, and its fun to watch them play."
The Dragons kick off the 2009 season with a home opener this Sunday at 5:00 p.m., as they will host the Florida Surge at Thomas University's Wendy's Field. The full season schedule and season tickets are available on the club's website.
