WEEK VII SCORES & POST-SEASON UPDATE

East Conference playoffs set with the Boston Breakers Reserves & Long Island Fury (above) nabbing top seeds

SACRAMENTO, CA (07/12/10) - The race to qualify for the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) post-season has turned the corner and is barreling down the stretch, as the East Conference finished play this past weekend with spots in their playoffs going down to the very last match. In the Midwest Conference, three of the four teams have qualified for their respective playoffs while in the Pacific, only one of four teams have booked their post-season ticket with races in both divisions being decided this weekend - the final one of the 2010 WPSL regular season.

Oklahoma Alliance F.C. won the Big Sky-South Division this past weekend while in the North Division, Phoenix, Arizona, Utah and Salt Lake City will battle it out in Utah this weekend with all four sides playing each other. The race in the Sunshine Conference is a tight one as well, with three teams - FSA Freedom, Miami Kickers F.C. and Brandon F.C. - also vying for the conference championship and the right to play in the WPSL Final Four playoff match, hosted by the Midwest champion the weekend of July 24-25.

First of all, the seedings & pairings for the six-team playoffs in the East Conference have been decided, as the Northeast Division winners Boston Aztec Breakers Reserves (8-1-1) and Central Division winners Long Island Fury (7-2-0) have been awarded the top two seeds, respectively. Both teams will receive a first-round bye and host the Semifinals on July 20-21, while Mid-Atlantic Division champion Lancaster Inferno (6-1-3) will be the No. 3 seed with Boston Aztec U-23 (8-1-1) nabbing the No. 4 seed.

Lancaster will host the No. 6 seed ASA Chesapeake Charge (4-3-3) and Boston will host No. 5 seed & 2009 East Finalists Millburn Magic (5-4-1) this weekend. Full match details for both quarterfinal matches will be provided in the coming days. Due to scheduling commitments made prior to the start of the 2010 season, Philadelphia (6-3-1) has foregone their inclusion in the playoffs.

ASA Chesapeake defeated TSC Maryland Pride by a 1-0 score this past Friday to earn their berth, while Millburn beat BuxMont by a 2-1 score in their regular season finale to win their way into the conference playoffs. Check back tomorrow for a full breakdown & ramifications of the races in the Midwest, Pacific and Sunshine Conferences.
