Pacific North Teams Find Their Stride

By Cassandra Dreher

In the beginning, it looked as if Storm Elk Grove had the Pacific-North Division Championship in the bag.  But as June came to a close last weekend, it was apparent that a few rivals had finally found their stride; and with two weeks left in the season, a lot can change.

North Bay FC Wave surged into second place this weekend, earning wins against the San Francisco Nighthawks and Central California HEAT.  Former UC Berkeley player Katie Benz scored twice in the Wave’s victorious weekend, pushing the team past rivals West Coast Wildkatz in the standings.

The Wildkatz emerged from the weekend with three points after a loss to the still-undefeated Storm Elk Grove and a very close match against last place team Storm Sacramento.  The Wildkatz ultimately won 3-2, but the game was the first in which the Sacramento club scored multiple goals.  West Coast Wildkatz will face off against North Bay FC Wave for the last time on Friday, July 5, and will undoubtedly be looking to earn a few revenge points over the rival team.
