Several players on our roster wre unable to make it to the game today due to orientation day at their respective universities, injuries and prior committments. Our back up goalie never showed up which was dissappointing so Megan Bodiford stepped up to go in goal.
We had 11 players for the game today which is unbelievable because we have 24 rostered players but the timing of all these players happened all on one day.
Nonetheless, it is no excuse to play with such an inept display particularly against teams that we should be beating. We accept that Ajax and San Diego Utd are the cream of the division but we should be competing against a team like Stars.
We gave them their first goal in the 2nd minute with poor positional defensing by Laurel Mackenzie who scored a headed own goal, which once again set the tone for the team and the rest of the game.
At halftime we had a legitimiate shot of getting back in the game with the wind and knowing that the team we were playing were slow defensively.
Instead of coming out with drive and determination we came out flat with no energy and heart. Not the type of team that is synonomous with Rush Soccer or Coach M-J Tate.
You know when you are not having a good game when the opponent scores an inadvertant goal off of the side of her leg/glute.
"What was most disappointing today is that the players never made it happen, no one showed the leadership and character to take over a game when it was their for the taking." said Head Coach M-J Tate
Coach Tate said "This has has been a huge learning curve for all of us as staff, management and players."
"It is humbling to have a losing season" said Tate "but I now know what the standard is like in the conference, I know how to prepare better next season and quite frankly I will be looking for a much better level of training and playing committment for my players next season." he said.
"We will continue to change the culture of soccer in our community and educate players, fans and parents alike." Tate remarked
"This is my first losing season as a coach." Tate said and "quite honestly is hard to swallow but the sign of greatness is bouncing back and improving on the past in order to secure the future."
