 FC Milwaukee WPSL Splits Games; Hagen Named to WPSL Team of the Week
FC Milwaukee's WPSL team lost a close 3-2 game away to Chicago Eclipse last Wednesday, but rebounded well to defeat Iowa Rush 2-0 at home on Saturday. Laurie Nosbusch and U17 player Mady Vicker scored the goals against Eclipse, and the team created several chances to tie in the final minutes of the game. "It was a great game that could have gone either way," said coach Christian Lavers. "We are excited to play them again at home in July for what is likely to decide the Midwest North Division Championship." On Sunday, Sarah Hagen and Lindsey Johnson each scored to lead FC Milwaukee over Iowa Rush. Assistant coach Monica White saw significant improvement from the first game against Iowa one week ago: "Even though the scores for the games were identical, I thought we looked far more organized and dangerous in the second game - which bodes well for the rest of the season."
FC Milwaukee forward Sarah Hagen was named to the WPSL Team of the Week for her performances in the two games, becoming the third player from FC Milwaukee to be recognized in only two weeks. "The WPSL is providing exactly the environment we hoped," said Lavers. "Collegiate players have a great training environment with meaningful games, and we have been able to provide additional developmental opportunities for some of our club's top youth players. Already this season we have had important contributions from 5 youth players in the club: Justine Hovden, Cara Jacobsen, Emily Jacobsen, Mady Vicker, and Brittany Von Reuden."
