OREGON RUSH SOCCER CLUB SET TO BEGIN SECOND SEASON IN WOMEN’S PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE

Rush Announces WPSL Management and Coaching Staff

BEND, Oregon – The Oregon Rush Soccer Club announced today it has tapped longtime Central Oregon soccer coach Kyle Steinbaugh to serve as the head coach of the Oregon Rush Women’s Premier Soccer (WPSL) team. Steinbaugh, who has coached soccer in Central Oregon for nearly 20 years, leads the team into its second season in the largest women’s soccer league in the world.

“We are looking to build on the steps we took last year,” Steinbaugh said. “With a mix of returning collegiate talent and rising youth stars, we should have a great mix of experience and youth.”

The WPSL is an independent national soccer league whose main focus is on the development of highly competitive women’s soccer teams. The WPSL provides opportunities for elite female soccer players to play at the highest level in North America. Many former and current United States and International National Team players have played in the WPSL, including: Julie Foudy, Brandi Chastain, Kristine Lilly, Joy Fawcett, Abby Wambach, Shannon Boxx, and Shannon MacMillan.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our female athletes to play at the highest level possible and all right here in Bend,” said ORSC President Ryan Shore. “We are looking forward to an exciting and entertaining summer of soccer.”

Oregon Rush launched its WPSL team last summer as an opportunity for its elite players to play at a premier level. The team will play an eight-game season this summer with home games scheduled at Summit High School. The schedule for the WPSL Northwest League will be released next week.

Steinbaugh has been with Rush since its inception and will be joined on the bench by newly hired ORSC Technical Director Brett Jacobs and other ORSC staff coaches. Jacobs, who most recently served on the coaching staff of the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer, joined ORSC in April after a nationwide search.

Also joining the staff is Jon Bullock who will serve as the team’s General Manager after overseeing game day operations last summer. Bullock’s career in soccer includes both coaching and management roles, including a stint as the Assistant General Manager of the Willamette Valley Firebirds of the PDL. As a volunteer, Bullock will oversee game day operations, including promotions, and logistical operations.

“I have always loved soccer, and this gives me an opportunity to spend time as a volunteer promoting the sport,” Bullock said.

Oregon Rush is a premier soccer club drawing players from throughout Central Oregon and featuring over 20 competitive youth teams and recreational leagues for more than 700 youth players.

About the Team:

Oregon Rush joined the WPSL in 2011, and brought an exciting, attacking style of play to the league, with a mix of both current and former Oregon Rush players, as well as top collegiate and senior women's players.  "This is our second year in the league," states Coach Kyle Steinbaugh, "we are looking to build on the steps we took last year.  With a mix of returning collegiate talent and rising youth stars, we should have a great mix of experience and youth."

Among the players Oregon Rush had on its 2011 Roster are current Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year Maryn Beutler (Class of 2012, committed to University of Oregon), current Oregon 5A Player of the Year Haley Estopare (Class of 2012, committed to University of Arizona), and 2x Oregon Player of the Year McKenzie Ring (St Marys, CA).

Steinbaugh also hopes to see the same numbers of fans out this year as last.  "Bend families came out in droves last year with average attendance at around 400 fans, we believe Oregon Rush will be one of the best supported teams in the WPSL in 2012."
