About the Team:
Jersey Blues FC is an elite women's soccer program that competes in the WPSL and US Club NAL. The club was formed in 2008 as the Millburn Magic, and is the longest-standing WPSL team representing the Garden State.
The club has provided a home for some of the best collegiate players to come out of New Jersey in recent years, including Katie Ryan (Villanova), Katherine Sheeleigh (Harvard), Shira Averbuch (Stanford), Lia Fierro (Monmouth), Mallory Baker (Maryland), Sara Keane (WVU), 2013 All-American Danielle Calaprico (Virginia), U20 USWNT Player Daphne Corboz (Georgetown). In addition to these local players, Blues' Merel Van Dongen (Alabama) was called up to the Netherlands national team in 2013.
The team has proven successful over the years, qualifying for the playoffs in 2009 and 2010 - even reaching the Regional Finals. In 2013, the Blues went an impressive 7-0-1 in NAL Premier regular season play and capped this performance off with a dominant 3-0 victory over New Jersey Wildcats in the play-off final.
About the Coaching:
Head Coach Dean Selvey joined Jersey FC parent company New Jersey Soccer Group in the summer of 2011 having previously held the position of Youth Academy coach at professional club Barnet FC in London, England. Having spent his youth as an academy player for Derby County of the English Championship, Dean started coaching in 2006 and progressed through coaching roles with club teams, semi-professional adult teams and West Ham United FC (English Premier League) before joining Barnet FC in June 2009. In addition to assisting with the set-up of the Barnet Academy, Dean expanded his coaching experience by working with academy players from U7-U18 alongside Head Coach roles of the U11 and U14 teams.
Since moving to the US, Dean has been appointed Director of Coaching for Brooklyn based club SC Gjoa and also performs this role for New Jersey Soccer Group which includes curriculum drafting & education of 40+ staff coaches. In 2013, Dean was selected to be the New York Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL) Head Coach for their select U13 program.
Dean has had previous WPSL experience with Millburn Magic in 2012 and coached the Jersey Blues FC premier women's team in 2013. In 2013, Dean led the women's premier first team to an impressive 7-0-1 record before winning the NAL league play-off final 3-0 vs. New Jersey Wildcats.
Dean is a USSF/UEFA 'B' licensed coach scheduled to complete his A licence in Summer 2014. He holds additional youth coaching badges from the English FA, NSCAA and the Brazilian Soccer Federation. Alongside these association qualifications, Dean is also a qualified Coerver skills coach, Nike Sparq trainer and an accredited talent scout.
Type of Players: All players are encouraged to try-out regardless of position or location.
