About the Team: The Madison 56ers Soccer Club made the decision to expand our adult women's program to include a team competing in the WPSL in 2010. After a successful inaugural year in 2010 and again in 2011, the team will play its third season in the WPSL in 2012. The Madison 56ers will continue to house up to two teams in the WPL along with the WPSL team that will compete in the Midwest North Region of the WPSL. Some of the players included in the 2012 season are: Alexandra Melin, Kristyn Gawin, Lauren Gunderson, Emi Passini, and Taylor Madigan. All games will be played at Breese Stevens Stadium in Madison. The WPSL provides the top area amateur players an opportunity to compete amongst the best women players in the Midwest region of a national league. In addition there continues to be opportunities within the Madison 56ers organization for state level WPL competition, providing a comprehensive adult women's program. (The WPL provides opportunities for a high level of competition for players who are not yet at the WPSL level or can not make the WPSL committment). John Reddan, Madison 56ers Director of Coaching, coached the team in 2010, 2011 and will continue to coach the WPSL team for 2012. The Madison 56ers Soccer Club has been in Madison since 1956 and has been servicing both youth and adult soccer players for over 50 years. The Madison 56ers are not new to national-level competition for our adult players. The Madison 56ers have an adult men's NPSL team that has competed sucessfully in the NPSL for several years. A management group of interested individuals is led by General Manager, Cristian Brei and is always looking for more interested committee members. We continue the planning process to produce a competitive and financially successful WPSL program in the Madison area. Please contact Deb Gawin (608-213-7746) if you wish to be involved in the WPSL or adult women's organization at the Madison 56ers.
