INAUGURAL VICTORY FOR SOUTH JERSEY UNITED FC

MARLTON, NJ (06/06/10)  It was another eventful weekend in South Jersey for women's soccer. The South Jersey United FC senior team made club history with their first victory in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL). On Saturday night at Camden Catholic High School in Cherry Hill the United defeated the ASA Chesapeake Charge 1-0. Thorofare native Jenna Lindsay was an offensive threat throughout the game making creative runs and constantly utilizing her speed to keep the Chesapeake defense on their heels. Lindsay's efforts paid dividends in the 21st minute when she received a pass from Mullica Hill native Kelley Alpaugh and defeated the Charge keeper Kristen Sample. During the second half, Chesapeake became more organized and increased their intensity. This resulted in a number of scoring opportunities during the counterattack. However, the United's goalkeeper, Mullica Hill native Melissa Sanger kept the Charge off the scoreboard with several key saves to seal the victory.

"After last week's tough 1-0 loss to the defending national champions during our inaugural game, it was great to see the team bounce back and earn a victory" coach Juengert noted. "I was impressed with the effort and desire to win. However, late in the game we seem to lose some of our focus and became a little one dimensional. We'll make some adjustments this week at practice in preparation for our game this coming weekend against the Pride."

On June 12th the South Jersey United FC travels to Columbia, Maryland for its final Inter-Division game against the TSC Maryland Pride.

In other action, the South Jersey United FC Under-20 team traveled to Millburn, New Jersey to play their inaugural game in the Youth Premier Soccer League (YPSL) against the Magic. The United started strong and created several great first half chances, with the best one coming midway through the half, when a volley from Moorestown native Kat Wolff was stopped by the Magic keeper. Just prior to the end of the first half the Magic scored from just inside the box after a breakdown in the United's defense allowed a good combination play. As the second half progressed, the Magic made it 2-0 on a penalty kick. The United took a chance and changed formations to try to get on the scoreboard but could not solve the Magic defense. The Magic made it 3-0 on a late goal.

The U-20 team's next game will be a battle of South Jersey teams. The United will play at home on June 13th against the Jersey Select. Game time is 6:30 pm at the Memorial Sports Complex in Marlton.
